Plumberow Olympics

Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony of the Plumberow Olympics was a very colourful affair! The United Kingdom, America, Spain, Australia, Greece, Mexico and Brasil were all represented by their adopted year groups, with year 6 pupils reproducing the Olympic Rings on the field and then the playground. The 'Olympic Torch' relay was performed by 5 year 6 athletes and preceded the official opening of the Olympic week! Miss Smith's dance troupe then entertained the audience with some superb dance routines,

A variety of visitors, activities and special events have been arranged for all year groups throughout the week, culminating in Plumberow's Sports Day on Friday (weather permitting!)

Monday Fun!

Other activities on Monday included year 3 learning the official Olympic dance, a football masterclass for year 1 pupils by Neil Harris (Southend United), who then talked to and shared experiences (and medals) with year 6 and year 3's sponsored walk for NSPCC! A very busy day, enjoyed by all!

Tuesday Fun!

Tuesday saw year 2 having a great Zumba session, the year 4's sponsored walk, more mini-olympics (year 5), talks to years 5 & 6 by an Olympic volunteer (who is a parent from Plumberow) and the ever popular Triathlon for years 3 & 4!

Wednesday Fun!

On Wednesday, Steve Bish, a former England Badminton player, spoke to all KS2 pupils in a special assembly. This was followed by a masterclass for a number of year 4 pupils! Year 2 pupils held their own heptathlon and also had a 'Fiesta Afternoon'! Years 5 & 6 took part in their Triathlon!

Thursday Fun!

Anne Pearce (a former Olympic and Commonwealth diver) and Zumba in year 5 today!

Closing Ceremony

The Closing Ceremony was another very colourful affair with classes again parading and the Olympic Rings formed by year 6. Then, the top 3 'medal' winners from each year group were presented with their medals! Gold medal winners also received a prize of a free family swim, kindly donated by Clements Hall. The Olympic Torch was then passed to Brazil as the 2016 hosts!

It was a fantastic educational week, thoroughly enjoyed by all at Plumberow!! A huge thank you to all our special visitors and to everyone who helped make the week run smoothly! Photos of the event will be coming soon.
