Governing Body

Welcome to the Governing Body page of the website.

Ofsted Inspectors (March 2014) reported that; ‘Governors are proud of the school and are ambitious… they have a good understanding of pupils’ performance and the quality of teaching.’

We are committed to making the best better, building strong foundations and supporting all of our pupils to achieve and thrive with a vibrant curriculum and superb teaching.

In accordance with the Department for Education (Governance Handbook January 2017) our purpose is:

  • to provide confident, strategic leadership and to create robust accountability, oversight and assurance for educational and financial performance.

Our core functions are:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

Our structure and systems support our commitment to delivering excellence in governing the school.  At our regular meetings we discuss many of the following as required by the government:

  • Reviewing objective data on all aspects of school life including pupil progress and staff performance to facilitate a robust review
  • Maintaining the educational quality of the school
  • Monitoring the school’s finances in line with the budget and regulations
  • Monitoring conduct, equality and rights
  • Overseeing self-evaluation to ensure best practice in school governance
  • Ensure the school maintains the wellbeing of pupils
  • Monitoring all areas of staffing, performance and pay.  Being involved in recruitment and also in any discipline procedures
  • Being updated on admissions and any organisational changes
  • Monitor the control and use of the school’s premises
  • Monitor the implementation of the AET’s aims and policies.

At meetings the Head Teacher and Senior Management Team provide reports on operational matters and the governors review and question accordingly.  There is a proactive network that ensures the free flow of information across the school via the Joint Consultative Committee with staff and the Pupil and Parent Councils.

The Governing Body strives to ensure that its actions promote equality and diversity. Through their words and actions governors aim to provide equal opportunities regardless of sexuality, race, colour, disability, religion, age and ethnic origin.

For a more in depth report on our aims, objectives and structure please see the Governance Statement below which is listed along with other key documents.  As required by law our attendance and business interest are also published.

To contact the Governing Body please do so via the school office.

Thank you, for and on behalf of the Governing Body
