Pupils were shocked at the amount of sugar some of these contained!

Travelling by Tuba!

posted 28 Jun 2017, 11:17 by Sheila Bacon   [ updated 28 Jun 2017, 12:26 ]

'Years 1 and 3 from Plumberow, Years 3 and 4 from Grove Wood and some classes from Edward Francis and Edwards Hall, came together in Grove Wood's sports hall for a musical adventure!
Two guys took us on a musical journey around the world, explaining how the Tuba came about. Back to Roman times with their army horns to an Alpine horn from Switzerland, that was used as the "first mobile phone" to communicate across the mountains from the shepherds!
The African horn was originally made out of a hollow orange and then made out of clay baked in an oven and used across tribes to talk.
The silver tuba worn around the body was an American version of the tuba, to carry in a marching band. The children had the opportunity to try some of the different instruments and joined in with the songs.'
