SAINSBURY’S SCHOOL GAMES AWARD

We are extremely pleased to inform all of our children and parents that for the academic year 2016-2017, Plumberow were rewarded the Silver Award for our participation in the School Games programme. This award recognises the continued two hours of curriculum time our children receive in PE, as well as our excellent participation in fixtures, competitions and festivals across a variety of sports. It also reflects the high number of pupils who attend our clubs each week. We are very proud of this award and have now set our sights on achieving the Gold Award this year. Thank you to all of the staff, children and helpers who contributed to our success last year!

Plumberow Primary Academy also received approximately £9000 as part of the Government’s PE Sport Premium Funding in 2016-17. The money can be spent in a variety of ways relating to PE, including courses for pupils and staff, clubs and PE curriculum resources.

Details of our 2014/2015 Action Plan can be found, here!

In addition to this funding, Plumberow Primary Academy also spend a significant sum of money on employing 3 specialist Games Instructors to deliver high quality PE/Games throughout the Academy.

Castle Point and Rochford School Sport Partnership

Plumberow Primary Academy invests a portion of the Primary PE and Sport funding in working in partnership and collaboration with The Deanes through the Castle Point and Rochford School Sport Partnership to access a variety of services to benefit students and staff of the school.  This allows us to be part of an infrastructure of 50 schools benefiting from guidance and development around high quality physical education, increasing the range and breadth of ‘School Sport’ opportunities and educating young people regarding healthy and active lifestyles.

Individual pupils and teams have been extremely successful in tournaments and competitions as can be seen in our Sports Reports issued termly.

Sports day 2017!

posted 8 Jul 2017, 11:15 by Sheila Bacon   [ updated 13 Jul 2017, 04:30 ]

Another AMAZING day of Sport at the 2017 annual Sports Day!
KS2 in the morning followed a carousel of activities followed by sprint races and the annual Angus Hardie 600m Cup!
In the afternoon, KS1 also followed a carousel of activities, followed by sprint races and a 'Toddler' race!
The day saw triumphs, medal winning but most of all, some fantastic sportsmanship!
This year, We also had a Refreshment Bar (sponsored by Williams & Donovan and the Co-op) plus, we sold ice-lollies at lunchtime. The proceeds of these 'extras' were to go towards the purchase of a defibrillator. Both areas were EXTREMELY popular and we actually raised over £1443!!!
Everyone was a winner!!

PE Challenge Day!

posted 29 Jun 2017, 03:10 by Sheila Bacon   [ updated 29 Jun 2017, 09:53 ]

12 Plumberow Year 2s, 6 girls and 6 boys, went to Greensward Academy to take part in a PE Challenge Day.
They were joined by 6 children from Westerings, 5 from Hockley, and 4 from Ashingdon.
The idea of the day was for the 4 schools to come together and work with each other whilst taking part in sporting activities.
During the day, in mixed teams, 6 teams in total, the pupils took part in different sports, testing themselves in a team and individually.
The children took part in:
A Warm up, Putting, Frisbee Dodge Howler Throwing, Long jump, Diamond Cricket
Rob the Nest, A Gutter race, Blob Race and Square Relay Race!
The children continued on each activity until they fully understood the game, and how to get the best results,
Each child from each School was a great example and each School can feel very proud of them!
A presentation at the end of the day saw the children awarded with a certificate and Multi-Skill medal.
A special mention must go out to the Greensward Year 9s who helped out throughout a very, tiring, rewarding, skillful day!!'

There was more table tennis when another group of our after school table tennis club visited Grove Wood! More singles, doubles and games against the teachers! Pupils also officiated matches!
'TABLE TENNIS SQUAD SHINE!
Well done to all of the children in year 4 and year 5 who have represented Plumberow so excellently over the last two weeks in the table tennis friendlies against Grove Wood. All of the pupils have really improved their standard of play and the two sessions were great fun, including games of Beat the Teacher to finish!'

Some of the regular players from the Table Tennis After School Club played some pupils from Grove Wood in a friendly hosted by Plumberow! Singles, doubles and games against the teachers!! Lots of fun and a great opportunity to play against some different opponents. It was also an opportunity for the pupils to take full responsibility as they acted as referees and scorers for the matches!

Great job!!

Mountain Biking!

posted 21 Feb 2017, 23:22 by Sheila Bacon   [ updated 22 Feb 2017, 09:57 ]

'4 Year 5 and 4 Year 6 pupils took part in the Castle Point Mountain Biking event, held at the Olympic Games Mountain Biking track at Hadleigh Park.
We were one of 5 schools who entered along with:
Edward Francis
William Reed
Riverside
Westerings
The format was that each child would ride in four races. In the first race for each child, there was only one child in the race from each School. Girls against girls & boys against boys. After the children had all raced once, they were put into their next race with riders who finished in a similar position. This continued for the four races. Once all four races for each child was complete, they raced their semi-final to enter them into the final of 'A', 'B' or 'C'.
In the 'C' final Plumberow was not represented.
In the 'B' final girls we had two riders who finished 2nd and 8th
In the 'B' final boys we had one rider who finished 4th
In the 'A' final Girls we had two riders who finished 3rd and 8th
(A special mention for one of our Year 6 girls, who won all her heats, only to hit an uneven surface throwing her off her bike causing her to slide on her front. She jumped up, obviously hurt, and got back onto bike, but the chain was off, so she started to push her bike, determined to finish! Fortunately, a bike mechanic rushed to her rescue and put the chain back on. With a bleeding hand and knee, she finished the race! We ALL  felt very proud when she crossed the line).
In the 'A' final boys we had 3 riders who finished 3rd, 4th and 6th.
The overall finish positions for Schools:
1st. Riverside
2nd Plumberow
3rd Westerings
4th William Reed
5th Edward Francis
Well done to all competitors! The event was a great experience for them especially to race on the Olympic course!'

Along with Westerings and Hockley Primary, a group of Years 3, 4 & 5 pupils took part in a Tennis Tournament organised by The Hockley Lawn Tennis Club!
Following  Great Britain's successful Wimbledon, Plumberow pupils returned with the trophy!!

Game, Set & Match!!
Match Report from Mr Toovey!
'8 children from Plumberow Academy took part in a Tennis Tournament at Hockley Lawn Tennis Club, where they played against Hockley Primary and Westerings.
We had 4 year 3s 1 year 4 and 3 year 5s. Each pupil played 4 games, but never against each other. The scoring system - the first team to 10 wins, but the beauty of the format was every point countsed meaning if you lost 10-9 the losing school still scored 9 points!
We played 32 games, won 22 and lost 10 in the singles.
The Year 4 and 5s then played doubles where we played 4 matches, winning 3 and losing 1!
Score total.
Plumberow 1st with 301 points
Westerings 2nd with 267 points
Hockley 3rd with 190 points.
Plumberow children once again were very well behaved and played some brilliant Tennis!'

The challenge - swimming 4 lengths of the pool, riding their bikes for 2 laps of the field and a 1 lap run for Years 3,4&5!

Mountain Biking

posted 2 Feb 2016, 10:45 by Sheila Bacon   [ updated 1 Mar 2016, 08:41 ]

4 Year 5 and 4 Year 6 pupils took part in a Mountain Biking competition organised by the Castle Point and Rochford School Sports and hosted by Deanes!
Some great cycling in some testing conditions!

'On Tuesday 2nd February, 4 Year 5/6 girls and 4 boys, went to The Deanes School to compete in a mountain Bike competition
The course was on grass, and was about 100 metres long by approx. 35 metres wide with twists and turns, a long straight and a tight bend which involved a hill climb As the races followed one after another, this became very treacherous and hard to ride!
There were 9 Schools (including Plumberow) at this event, each school having 4 girls and 4 boys taking part. Each pupil raced 4 times, girls and boys in separate races. The results of where each pupil finished in the race enabled the organisers to put the pupils into their final of A,B,C,D.
We finished with 2nd and 5th places in the D final boys. D Final Girls and A Final Girls, a 4th, 5th and 7th place in the C Final Boys C Final Girls and a 2nd and 3rd place in the B Final Boys B Final Girls
A great effort by all Plumberow children, in tough, windy, cold and slippery conditions.
Children once again represented Plumberow Academy impeccably!'
